OBS and Microsoft Teams: A Guide to Integrated Live Streaming

Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) is a popular open-source tool for live streaming and video recording. By integrating OBS with Microsoft Teams, you can create professional and engaging presentations, webinars and meetings using the advanced streaming and recording features offered by OBS. In this article, you will learn how to use OBS in conjunction with Microsoft Teams.

Step 1: Download and install OBS. Go to the official OBS website(https://obsproject.com/) and download the software for your operating system (Windows, macOS or Linux). Install OBS on your computer by following the on-screen instructions.

Step 2: Download and install the OBS Virtual Camera plugin. Go to the OBS Virtual Camera GitHub page(https://github.com/Fenrirthviti/obs-virtual-cam/releases) and download the latest version of the plugin. Install the OBS Virtual Camera plugin by following the on-screen instructions. This plugin allows you to use OBS as a virtual camera in Microsoft Teams .

Step 3: Configure OBS for your live stream or recording. Open OBS and create a new scene by clicking the plus sign (+) under the Scenes window. Add sources to your scene, such as a video call, screen capture, images, text and other multimedia elements. Adjust the size and position of your sources by dragging and scaling them in the preview window. Configure your audio settings by going to the "Settings" menu and selecting "Audio." Make sure your microphone and any other audio inputs are set correctly.

Step 4: Launch the OBS Virtual Camera. In OBS, go to the "Tools" (Tools) menu and select "VirtualCam" (Virtual Camera). Click "Start" to launch the OBS Virtual Camera. This will make your OBS scene available as a virtual camera in Microsoft Teams.

Step 5: Configure Microsoft Teams to use OBS. Open Microsoft Teams and start a meeting or join an existing meeting. Click the camera icon to enable your camera (if it is not already enabled). Click the ellipsis icon (three dots) in the meeting controls and select "Device settings." In the dropdown menu under "Camera," select "OBS Virtual Camera" as your camera source.

Your OBS scene should now appear as your camera feed in Microsoft Teams . You can start your livestream or recording in OBS, and the output will be displayed in Microsoft Teams, allowing you to create professional and engaging video experiences for your presentations, webinars and meetings.
